5/14/2018 0 Comments april-may updateDuring the spring we took a lot of time drawing. I am not a strong drawer so I was really out of my comfort zone but learned new skills to learned how to draw, shadow and shade with pencil. We did a whole booklet of 6 or 6 drawings with different prompts, like nature, things that turn, industrial and more. I also collaborated with my friend to make clay monsters . I also did some more painting with brushes with some of the new skills I learned.

4/4/2018 0 Comments March updateThis month I did a variety of projects. I practiced learned a new skill on how to water color with liquid water color. I did many paintings with that. I also painting on different surfaces. I learned how to paint more controlled and how to use a new very small brush to make small designs on small objects such as glass beads and created original art. We also did some origami. Everyone in the class made a origami swan and sent them to the victims of the school shooting as a sign of peace. I also made a collage with another student which for me, was stepping out of my comfort zone, but it came out really good. I was filled with all the colors and inspirational words.
2/14/2018 1 Comment February UpdateThis month I did many new things. I developed a new skill and learned how to embroider. In class we watched a short video about the artist Faith Ringgold who made a book based on her embroidery and she also made a huge embroidered tapestry that represented her life as a child. It was very intricate and inspiring. Then we went on to learn and try it ourselves. We learned the running stitch and blanket stitch and more. First i did a simple trial run using a hoop, needle and embroidery floss to try out all the stitches and get used to it. Then I made my interpretation on an Ugly doll using a simple stitch to sew on the eyes and mouth. Then I took a risk this mouth too because we did a van gogh inspired painting and i don't usually do painting like this, but it turned out really well and i really enjoyed doing it so i think that i should consider widening my artistic range.
1/16/2018 0 Comments Mid-Term update This term I have been working on many new things. I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried new styles of art to create more of a variety of work in my portfolio. Instead of mostly water color I branched out and did some paintings with acrylic paint. I developed a new skill of blending paints, creating new colors, and how to use them better. I also did carving. I learned how to carve on linoleum which was another new skill i developed. I also worked with easy carve again and got better at doing it. This time instead of making basic stamps, i tried to make something that meant something. I made a ying yang sign that had flowers in the circle. This meant to find the good and he bad and also to be one with nature, calm and peaceful.I also did more watercolor becacuse that what i'm good at and what i like to do, so i created original art and tried to control the water color more so i can improve my skills.
11/29/2017 1 Comment November updateThis month consisted of a few assigned projects and lots of time to do free art. The first project was the Flowers. We were too draw flowers from life and color them using different mediums and different products like paint, watercolor, ink etc. As you can see below the first picture to the left, I used water color, colored pencil, and oil pastels. This projects was challenging for me at times because colored pencil is not a strong suit of mine so using them was risky in a way. I learned how to shade and color better developing a new skill at the end though. The Next project we did was a portrait of ourselves or someone else (last picture all the way to the right). Before we even started to do the portrait we were assigned to watch tutorials and observe how to correctly draw facial features like eyes and lips. In the very last picture on the bottom row you can see we really worked on correctly shadowing and shading. I ended up choosing to do a portrait of my friend using all the same color watercolor using different mediums to create shadows and define parts of the face. I knew I wanted to do watercolor some way for this instead of colored pencils to make it more original. The middle picture was an independent project. I tried out the new black jesso to create a canvas on a wooden square. Then I painted the snowy lake seen.
In class we watched a video about by the Guerilla Girls about the art exhibit they did about complaining. They had people come in and write down a complaint about anything, the world, their lives etc. Then put it on a board. In class we did something very similar, we all wrote down 5 complaints we had about anything in general and posted them on a board. It increased our global awareness in the world because we saw all the other complaints other people and it really opened my eyes about what was going on in the world. Then we took it a step further and made a piece that corresponds with our complaint. My complaint I did was how clothes and jeans for women never actually fit women. I created a piece expressing my complaint by a women holding out her jeans that are far too big. Next we started to work on our pen and ink skills. We developed the skill of using ink and pen to create a piece based on another video we watched in class. The video “challenged” our class to make a piece showing something we never seen in our lives and probably never will, using ink. I made a picture of parallel universes because that is something i've yet to see and i know i will not ever see it. I took a risk with this project because i didn’t think about it i just went for it. I just drew it, painted it and turned it in and it ended up looking pretty good. Afterward both were done we critiqued each other's work and collaborated with a partner to make adjustments and give suggestion on what each other could add or change. This was helpful because i got to see someone else's point of view on my artwork so i could make it better.
9/12/2017 1 Comment Collaborative muralAs our first piece of collaboration we did a mural. Mrs. Haggerty took a picture of the Love Not War mural by Picasso and split it up into 4x4 squares and handed one to each of us. Then we had to take that picture and copy it onto an 8x8 square. I learned how to enlarge and image to scale. I was surprised to see how much one person could effect the whole piece, because of they didn't do their piece correct the whole mural would be messed up. I thought it was a good way to jump back into the year because we had to use a few skill, enlargement, drawing and shading with a tortillian to get different values of pencil.
9/12/2017 0 Comments New year of artI am excited to start off another year of art! So far this year we have been focusing on collaborating, taking risks and preparing for what’s to come. The first week of school we had a task party where we had a partner and we had to take a task out of a bucket and complete it for example, make something blue or tie six things together. I never noticed before that there were so many different ways to interpret one thing. Some people, when given the same task, came out with different products. Me and my partner made a jellyfish when we got the task to make something blue, after a few challenges of using the right materials our product looked really good. This task party made me realize that I was good at collaborating and that this year I want to step out of my comfort zone and make art that stands out and speaks more to my character.
5/31/2017 0 Comments FInal EvaluationThis year my favorite project that was the most successful was the fashion water color because the result was very successful. It ended up being really fun to do and looked good. I learned the most from the pottery unit because I was not good at it. No matter what I made it did not turn out like how i wanted it to and it was frustrating. I learned to be patient, not to give up, and how to correctly manage clay in the end. When doing the canvas painting inspired by another artist I used techniques I already knew from past art classes. For example I had to use perspective which I remember first learning in 7th grade. This time around i used it but it was more advance so I got better at the technique and learned more about doing it better. A piece of artwork I did that reflects me as an artists is would probably once again be the fashion water color because I have always had an interest in fashion and I got to design something that I liked and I would wear reflecting reflecting reflecting and my style. As a whole i really enjoyed this class it gave me a period i could not only look forward to but go and almost relax while making artwork and learning more about art. Art design can help change the world because it gives people way to express themselves and be artistically heard. Instead of violent actions people can learn to paint of create art to let out frustrations or feelings. Art design has impacted my life because now I know of this whole new world of art and there is more to life then sports and school, there an artistic aspect that I'm excited to further in.
3/28/2017 0 Comments Proportion figure projectTo make this model figure we had to take measurements of our own bodies of our legs, arms, etc. Then take those measurements down to scale. The proportions had to be fitting to our bodies so that the figures looked right and or realistic. To move the measurements down to scale we divided all the numbers by four to make it possible to create a proportional scaled figure. Then we took wire and molded it to a base shape that looked like a figure and one that help the position that we chose. After we taped on newspaper to create some volume to that later on when we put the plaster strips on the figure, it wouldn't be flat. After all of the layer were on and the plaster set, we painted it or had to ability to design out figures however we wanted to. I covered mine completely in silver glitter with a bright orange base.
